How to stop snoring

Night suffering and trying to sleep under snoring of someone in the household aren’t something rare. As opposed to popular belief, snoring is not caused by a “rather wrong position.”

There are three degrees of intensity of snoring. The first (light) one is heard as if purring sounds, monotonous and quiet, “warbling” of short duration and occurs only if the person is lying on his back. This snoring usually does not bother others. Snoring of second degree (moderate) is significantly more noticeable.

SnoreIf you sleep in any position producing loud snoring, periodically replaced by loud sobs, these are signs of the third, the most difficult degree. In this case, do not hesitate to visit the doctor as these are symptoms of more serious problems – sleep apnea syndrome, when air flow is blocked in the human body. Such delays can last from a few seconds to a couple of minutes.

Here are some methods that allow preventing light snoring.

  • Do not sleep on your back. It’s no wonder your woman tries to turn you on your side in the night. If you leave the habit of sleeping on your back, and you sleep in other positions, the snorting will virtually disappear from your life.
  • Play wind instruments. Of course, the sounds you emit during sleep are very similar to the sound of the trumpet, but by learning how to play a real musical instrument you will be able to save yourself and your family from “night concerts.” While you are playing a wind instrument, the muscles of the upper airway become stronger.
  • Give up drinking alcohol before going to bed. Alcohol relaxes the muscles of the respiratory tract during sleep and leads to the person starting to snore. Thus, it is advisable not to drink alcohol 3-4 hours before sleep.

In the difficult cases, you should visit a surgeon in order to remove anything that interferes with normal breathing (adenoids, polyps) or correct the shape of the soft palate. Thus your snoring problem will be solved, but no doctor will give you an absolute guarantee that it will not arise again some time after the surgery. Therefore, many patients manage their snoring in an old-fashioned way: during the loudest peals their wives, who do not want to sleep under such a “soundtrack”, wake them and push them to their sides.

If you have found out that you or someone of your family snores heavily during sleep, do not delay your visit to the doctor. Sleep apnea syndrome has a progressive character and it can lead to serious consequences that can be prevented by timely and relevant treatment.
